The end of the year is a popular time to make charitable gifts, and many nonprofit organizations
depend upon these year-end contributions to get through the following year.

As you start to hear from more nonprofits, we want to help you navigate End-of-Year Giving Campaigns
to make sure your gift, wherever you choose to give, is meaningful, makes the largest possible impact
and gives you a return as well!

DAY 1: MAKE SURE IT COUNTS

Make Sure Your Donations Count as a Tax Deduction

Did you know that not all charitable organizations are tax deductible? Make sure your donation is going directly to a tax exempt organization designated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit by the IRS. Guidestar is a great resource for verifying nonprofit organizations

DAY 2: WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

Verify Your Donations Dollars are Going Directly to Your Cause

Make sure your dollars make a difference! Some organizations spend the majority of donation dollars on administration costs and fundraising. Here are two helpful tools to research the organizations you’re interested donating to:

DAY 3: WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO YOU?

Pick an Organization that’s Important to You

Every non-profit organization has a mission statement. Make sure you research different organizations and select one that embodies a cause you care about. Follow these steps to help guide your decision:

  1. Ask yourself: What causes are important to you? Do you want to make a local or global impact
  2. Explore the websites of organizations that interest you
  3. Read their mission statement
  4. Then ask yourself: Does this organization’s values align with mine?

DAY 4: THE MOST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK

How Much Impact Will Your Donation Have?

Your donation doesn’t have to be a huge amount of money to make a big impact. Make sure you research how much you donate will have an actual impact on the cause or organization you donate to. This can help you decide which organization you give to.  If you’re in doubt, reach out to the organization you’re considering and ask them directly.

DAY 5: THIS IS PERSONAL

Pick a Cause…

Philanthropy is personal; there is no right or wrong cause to feel connected to, you just have to determine what is important to you. Also, consider making a long term commitment to the cause and organization. Your continued support, from donation dollars to volunteering, can have a powerful, positive and lasting effect for your cause.
