Who Are We?

The AltaMed Foundation team works every day to eliminate health disparities that exist in our communities.

These gaps can occur when there is low access to care, or fewer physicians serving the population, as well as low quality of care.

AltaMed Foundation has been fighting alongside our communities to eliminate these inequalities for almost 50 years.

We have made a lot of progress, but there is still a long way to go. We will continue to stand by our patients and provide the care our communities need, no matter what.

Why It Matters

AltaMed Health Services operates in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, both of which have areas classified as Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs). This signifies that there are not enough doctors to serve the current population. Ideally, there should be one physician per 3,500 community members. In our service area of over 11 million people, there are only 717 physicians, or one physician per 15,378 members. Currently, only 23% of the need is being met, leaving millions of people without access to quality health care. Disparities in care are even wider among low-income, uninsured and underinsured. AltaMed is continuously working to increase access to high-quality and culturally competent health care for all in our community by bringing in more quality physicians. AltaMed will never turn away a patient due to their inability to pay.
