how A Two-Dollar Donation Inspired Our Entire Foundation

We received a $2 donation with a note that inspired us to start this campaign. With your help, that $2 we received will multiply to have an even bigger impact on the lives of children in our communities.

We believe every donation matters.

Even a small donation can have a lasting impact. By contributing $2, you’ll help us give one of our young patients a book through Reach Out and Read, but it doesn’t end there! We are constantly expanding the access to our services for our patients.

Our goal is to eliminate health care and educational disparities in our communities.

With your help, since 1969, AltaMed has grown to provide health care to over a million people.

AltaMed has been fighting alongside our communities to eliminate inequalities. Our approach is to expand access to care by increasing the number of doctors serving communities with health professional shortages, as well as providing community programs to help them live a healthy lifestyle.

We’ve been serving families and communities of Los Angeles and Orange counties for almost 50 years.

The right to quality health care is the most pervasive, yet least recognized right in the United States.

Health inequalities are unfair and avoidable. They represent thousands of unnecessary premature deaths every year. These circumstances disadvantage people and limit their chance to live a longer, healthier life.

We Are Fighting To Get More Doctors In Our Community
The AltaMed Family (our community, our supporters like you, our doctors and our staff) will fight to ensure our neighbors have continued access to doctors, medicine and preventative services, no matter what.
AltaMed has successfully increased our breast cancer screening rates among uninsured women from 38% in 2012 to 78% in 2016, screening over 2300 uninsured women in 2016. In order to screen at least 2300 uninsured women in 2018, we will need to raise $163,300. Join us on this mission to ensure every woman has access to a breast cancer screening!
We helped more than 25,000 high school aged patients graduate from high school, pursue higher education and achieve a healthier, more successful future
For the past 20 years, AltaMed has offered PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly), which offers comprehensive senior care. PACE patients are those aged 65 and older who qualify for nursing home level of care, but remain living independently in their own homes.

What is Reach Out and Read?

The Mission: Reach Out and Read provides young children a foundation for success by incorporating books into pediatric care and encouraging families to read aloud together.

The program serves more than 4.7 million children and their families across the nation, with a special emphasis on serving those in low-income communities. Reach Out and Read provides books for children in more than 14 languages including Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish.
