AltaMed Awarded $1.8 Million by Centene Foundation in partnership with Health Net to Expand Mobile Health Access

The AltaMed Foundation is proud to recognize a transformative $1.8 million investment made possible through a partnership with the Centene Foundation and Health Net, helping bring essential health services directly into communities across Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

Through support of AltaMed’s Mobile Outreach for Vital Equity and Services (MOVES) program, this three-year grant is expanding access to preventive care for individuals and families who face barriers to traditional clinic-based services, including seniors, people with mobility challenges, and other underserved populations.

Building on AltaMed’s decades of experience providing community-based mobile care, MOVES delivers health screenings, chronic disease prevention education, vaccinations, and connections to primary care and social services in neighborhoods with the greatest need. By meeting people where they live, work, and gather, the program helps identify health concerns early and connect individuals to ongoing care before conditions become more serious.

“This partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing health equity and ensuring that every community has access to quality care,” said Sharlene Risdon-Jackson, Vice President, AltaMed Foundation. “This support allows us to reach more residents with preventive services that can make a meaningful difference in their long-term health, while also strengthening our ability to respond when communities face emergencies and unexpected challenges. From expanding access to care through our mobile health program to supporting response efforts during crises such as the Eaton and Lineage Fires, this investment helps ensure we can meet people where they are, both in everyday moments and times of greatest need.”

The impact of the MOVES program is already being felt across the communities AltaMed serves. From January to June 2026, the mobile outreach team conducted 202 community events, including health screenings, outreach activities, workshops, and resource fairs, reaching 11,361 community members through health education and outreach efforts. More than 1,034 individuals received health screenings and were connected to preventive care services and follow-up support. These efforts not only help identify health concerns early but also ensure that community members have access to the resources and care they need to improve their long-term health and well-being.

Support from the Centene Foundation and Health Net also strengthened AltaMed’s ability to respond quickly during public health and community emergencies. Most recently, mobile outreach efforts supported residents affected by the Lineage Fire in Boyle Heights, providing health resources, education, and connections to services in the days following the fire.

Over the life of the grant, AltaMed expects to reach thousands of community members through mobile screenings, health education campaigns, and partnerships with local schools, community-based organizations, businesses, and public agencies.

The program will also help address health-related social needs through referrals to resources such as food assistance, support programs, and other community services.

Through the grant support of the Centene Foundation and the ongoing partnership of Health Net, AltaMed is expanding access to care, strengthening vital programs, and creating healthier futures for the communities we serve. Together, these organizations are helping advance health equity across Southern California by bringing care directly to where it is needed most.
