Youth Champions Program

AltaMed Youth Champions is a free professional training and mentoring program for high school and college students to learn the skills they need to successfully compete in our rapidly changing world.

Time: August 23 at 4pm
Location: AltaMed, 2040 Camfield Avenue, Los Angeles, CA

You are invited to learn more about the Youth Champions Program, from the leaders and facilitators, they will share how the program uniquely delivers leadership development for High School and College Students in separate sessions.
Potential participants can ask questions and learn more about High School hosting site and programs.
Parents, guardians and adult family members are welcomed to attend the information session.

Learn from Business Leaders & Corporate Entrepreneurs

AltaMed’s Youth Champions program empowers youth to enhance their soft skills, such as business knowledge, leadership development, public speaking, strategic thinking, financial literacy and team building. It also gives them opportunities to network and learn from corporate leaders and entrepreneurs.

Ideal candidates are students who demonstrate a willingness to take the time to invest in their future – by developing leadership and problem-solving skills, building courage, exercising perseverance, and cultivating creativity.

Program Components

  • Program is free
  • Southeast Los Angeles Cohort begins September 24 at 3:30 p.m.
  • College Cohort begins September 23 at 4:00 p.m.

High School

  • Attend the Information Session on August 23 at 4 p.m. AltaMed Health Services, 2040 Camfield Avenue, Los Angeles. Parents, guardians and adult relatives are welcome.
  • Must be sophomore, junior or senior.
  • Able to commit to attending weekly sessions.
  • Maintain good academic standing.

College

  • Must be freshman or sophomore.
  • Able to commit to attending sessions.
  • College cohort meets every other Monday (see calendar for upcoming dates).

* Both cohorts will have additional experiential outings one Saturday a month.

Workshop Summary

Leadership Workshop #1: Develop the understanding of leadership characteristics; learn to assess your career  interest and skill levels to create short and long term goals using the S.M.A.R.T goal method

Leadership Workshop #2: Learn to examine the characteristics of effective team leaders and their impact on team development

Public Speaking Workshop: Become effective speakers, by developing critical thinking, and identifying different speech delivery styles

Personal Finance Workshop: Learn how to make informed financial decisions by considering what it means to be financially responsible

Business Skill Workshop: Practice networking techniques to grow and leverage new contacts, and learn the strategies for writing a professional resume

Best Version of You Workshop: Participants will identify unproductive habits activated every day in an individual’s life and will engage in exercises to help them develop new habits to help them in their success
