Caring for Three Generations

Rosa and her daughter

From her first visit, Rosa, a 79-year-old immigrant, formed a deep connection with her AltaMed home clinic.

The AltaMed Paramount Clinic, formerly known as La Clinica Medica Hispana, has been there for her family through every chapter—providing essential prenatal care for her daughter, welcoming her grandson into the world, and helping Rosa manage her diabetes.

For over 20 years, the Paramount clinic has been a trusted medical home for three generations of her family.

“We’re very familiar with our doctor and nurses there, and they treat us so kindly—they’re always very respectful and provide efficient care,” says Rosa.

With the support of her primary care physician, Dr. Khoury, Rosa has access to a comprehensive care team, including a diabetes specialist, cardiologist, podiatrist, nephrologist, pain management specialist, and physical therapist. They provide her with the essential resources she needs to manage diabetes-related health complications and receive regular preventative care.

Although Rosa still faces health challenges, the care she receives helps her achieve a better quality of life.

“I find joy in my kitchen, cooking for my family, especially dishes like chile colorado, tamales, and menudo,” says Rosa. Adding that her primary motivation for staying healthy is her family, both in the United States and Mexico. Rosa shares, “I have a lot of family there, so they come visit me; we go out and have day trips. There’s always something to do.”
