Join us as we celebrate the 55th Anniversary of AltaMed, a night dedicated to health and art.
In 2024, we are providing patients throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties with quality, culturally competent medical, dental, behavioral, and senior care services on a scale we could not have imagined when we first opened our doors in 1969. With a focus on prevention and caring for the whole individual, we are more efficient than ever before at keeping our patients healthy, out of the emergency room, and in their homes.
We hope you will join us and support AltaMed on this important milestone, and as we look to the future of health care for our community.
Roberto Gil de Montes’s figurative paintings and drawings explore the hidden images and forgotten or imagined stories behind his everyday life.
Gil de Montes was instrumental in the foundation of the Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE), an early space for other artists to collaborate and share their art, advancing the diverse narratives of Los Angeles and Chicanidad. For the last twenty years, he has been based in La Peñita, a fishing town on the Pacific coast of Nayarit, Mexico. He paints in a studio directly overlooking the town plaza, a block from the coast.
Dr. Sandra Hernández embodies a trailblazing dedication to elevating the quality of life for Californians. Her extraordinary contributions as a physician leader, educator, and advocate for health care access are inspiring.
Prior to joining the California Health Care Foundation, Hernandez led the San Francisco Foundation and was director of public health for the City and County of San Francisco. Hernandez has served on various state wide boards and councils. She co-chaired San Francisco’s Universal Healthcare Council, which designed Healthy San Francisco.
Hernandez practiced at San Francisco General Hospital in the HIV/AIDS Clinic and was an assistant clinical professor at the UCSF School of Medicine.
As an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and author, George Pla has touched the lives of millions.
He established and leads the Cordoba Corporation, a nationally recognized civil engineering program and construction firm. In 2012, he brought pride to Angelinos everywhere by leading the planning of the space shuttle Endeavor’s path through the streets of Los Angeles. As president of the Memorial Coliseum Commission, Pla is not only bringing international attention to the city by aiding in the preparations for the 2028 Summer Olympics but also opening the doors of the Coliseum to the local community.
Mayor Bass is the 43rd Mayor of Los Angeles and the first woman and second African American to be elected as the city’s chief executive. Bass has led the nation’s second largest city with unprecedented urgency that has delivered results for all Angelenos.
Thousands more unhoused Angelenos have come inside in her first year than the year before, leading to a reported drop in homelessness for the first time in years. During her first year, homicides and violent crime decreased. Thousands of businesses opened. Hundreds of millions of dollars secured through locking arms with state and federal partners as Los Angeles continues to urgently lead on climate.
After serving as a front-line healthcare provider as a nurse and as a physician assistant, Mayor Bass founded the Community Coalition to organize the predominantly Black and Latino residents of South L.A. against substance abuse, poverty and crime, and to pioneer strategies to address the root causes behind the challenges faced by underserved neighborhoods. Bass served in the California State Assembly and in the U.S. Congress representing Los Angeles and Culver City.
Xavier Becerra is the 25th Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services and the first Latino to hold the office in the history of the United States. Throughout his career, the Secretary has made it his priority to ensure that Americans have access to the affordable healthcare they need to survive and thrive – from his early days as a legal advocate representing individuals with mental illness, to his role as the Attorney General of the state of California.
Secretary Becerra served 12 terms in Congress as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. For over two decades in Congress, Secretary Becerra worked so that every family had the assurance of care that his own family had when he was growing up.
Senator Alex Padilla, a progressive problem-solver, is the first Latino elected to represent California in the U.S. Senate. He was drawn to politics in response to California’s anti-immigrant Proposition 187. Padilla was elected to the Los Angeles City Council in 1999 and the State Senate in 2006. As California’s Secretary of State, he oversaw a historic expansion of voting rights and voter participation.
As United States Senator, Padilla has taken action to cut costs for families, combat the climate crisis, and help thousands of Californians secure millions of dollars owed to them by federal agencies. Padilla currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, and Border Safety. He is a member of the Senate Committees on Budget; Environment and Public Works; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; Judiciary; and Rules.

The critically adored Mexican-American singer-songwriter Lupita Infante is part of the emerging generation of ranchera artists who are so deeply steeped in their traditions that they possess the confidence and expertise to brilliantly remake them for the new generation of listeners. As a two-time Grammy Award nominee, Lupita Infante is solidifying her place as a leading female face in Musica Mexicana while simultaneously becoming one of the new generation’s most critically adored Musica Mexicana artists.
In 2023, Lupita released her latest album “Amor Como En Las Películas De Antes,” which was nominated for a 2024 Grammy for Best Musica Mexicana Album (Including Tejano), making this her second-ever Grammy nomination. The title is inspired by Lupita’s admiration for the golden age of Mexican cinema. This album is an eclectic mix of songs that honors traditional and new Mariachi, breaking the generational barrier while making it her own.
Her name is instantly familiar to tens of millions of Mexicans, as she is the granddaughter of Pedro Infante Cruz (1917-1957), the most beloved Mexican singer and actor of the 20th century.
Lupita was nominated for a 2020 Latin Grammy for her song “Dejaré” (co-written with Luciano Luna). At the ceremony, backed by El Mariachi Sol de México, she performed a warmly received tribute to her grandfather. Her debut album “La Serenata” was also nominated for a Latin Grammy and a 2021 Grammy.
Lupita eventually signed with Sony Music Latin in 2022, and her career continued to develop and expand.
Lupita studied Ethnomusicology at UCLA and joined the school’s renowned Mariachi de Uclatlán, which is the oldest university mariachi in the United States with an over 50-year trajectory. Studying ethnomusicology gave Lupita the chance to rediscover Pedro Infante’s legacy through the works of academics. To pay her tuition, she worked as a Lyft driver. She graduated from UCLA in 2017. Despite Lupita coming from an iconic lineage, she has overcome barriers to achieve commercial and critical success within her career.
